Welcome to the Pure & Simple Soaps website!
I began making my handmade soaps in 2001 for the use of my family and friends. My goal was to make a product that was both environmentally friendly and one that didn't contain all the harsh detergents that commercially manufactured soaps do. Originally, I chose simple twine and paper tag packaging rather than a plastic wrapper because it was biodegradable. Recently, I've had paper boxes made that are 100% recyclable and printed with soy ink.
My 100% handcrafted soaps are made with a blend of saponified oils. This combination creates a rich, creamy soap that is both moisturizing to all skin types and long lasting. The fragrances I use come from natural essential oils and high quality fragrance oils and will not strip away vital nutrients from your skin.
Using the old-fashioned "kettle" method (cold process), each ingredient is carefully measured and gently warmed, so that the oils are not damaged. A natural product produced through this process is glycerin. Glycerin helps attract moisture to the skin and it generally is removed from commercially manufactured soaps.
Once thoroughly mixed, the soap is poured into molds and allowed to set for approximately 48 hours. It is then removed from the molds and cut into bars and stored on trays to gently age for several weeks. Each batch of soap is stirred, cut, and wrapped by hand using no machinery, so each bar is slightly unique in size and shape. This hands on approach allows the highest degree of quality control.
